본 과목은 정수론의 기본 개념들인 소수, 최대공약수, 합동, 원시근, 이차잉여류 등을 학습한다. 또한 학습한 개념들이 RSA, ElGamal 공개키 암호, DSA 등 현재 사용되는 다양한 암호기법을 설계하는데 어떻게 이용되는지 살펴볼 것이다.

The goal of Elementary Number Theory is to understand all the fundamentals of number theory including prime numbers, greatest common divisor, congruences, primitive roots, and quadratic residues. As the mathematical background for modern cryptography, the class will also show how the number theory is applied to construct various cryptographic schemes such as RSA, ElGamal, and DSA in use.
