전공자 뿐 아니라 다양한 대상을 위한 무용교육은 어떻게 이루어져야 하는가? 이를 위해서는 문화복지와 평생교육, 다양성을 추구하는 사회문화적 가치를 폭넓게 반영하는 관점이 요구된다. 「예술치유와 커뮤니티무용」은 다문화주의로부터의 문화적 다양성 뿐 아니라 신체장애와 한계를 뛰어넘는 커뮤니티 기반의 사회적 통합과 가능성, 사회적 관계와 치유로써 무용교육의 실천을 다루는 교과목이다. 커뮤니티무용은 다양한 구성원들이 참여하며 사회적, 역사적 이슈, 공동체에 의한 통합, 교감, 공동성의 생각을 발전시키며 그 자체의 프로젝트 과정에 주목하고, 일상적인 형태로 무용을 경험하게 하는 것이 중요하다. 커뮤니티무용은 ‘왜 다양성이 중요한가?’와 관련하여 ‘다름’을 인정하고 건강한 방식으로 도전하는 무용교육을 강조하고 있기에 취약계층을 위한 예술치유와 복지활동과 연계하여 사회공헌적인 가치를 형성하고 있다.
