Inauguration of the New President of Sangmyung University, Hong Seong-tae

The 14th President of Sangmyung University, Hong Seong-tae
On September 27th, the inauguration ceremony of the 14th president of Sangmyung University was held at the Seoul Campus Centuria Building Mille Hall. The inauguration was held following social distancing and quarantine guidelines. The ceremony was conducted minimizing the number of participants to help prevent the spread of COVID-19; however, it was streamed on the Sangmyung University official YouTube Channel.
On September 24th, the Sangmyung Academy, our university’s educational foundation, appointed Hong Seong-tae, a professor of Global Business Administration, as the 14th president of Sangmyung University. The new president, Hong Seong-tae, entered Seoul National University’s Department of Business Administration in 1981 and received a master's degree and doctorate in Business Administration from the graduate school. He had field experience, working for the Bank of Korea and KT. In 1998, he was appointed as a professor at Sangmyung University and led the university's educational innovation by serving as the Vice-President of the Seoul Campus, the Dean of the Office of Planning, the Dean of Research Affairs, and the Dean of the College of Business Administration. Off of Campus, he was also the president of the Aviation Management Society of Korea as a management expert. At the ceremony, he said, “Despite the rapidly changing crisis in university education, we must continue our challenges to lead society and move toward becoming a prestigious university in the world.”
The specific action plans he mentioned were as follows. The first thing mentioned was smooth communication and interaction. He then promised to prioritize students who are the center of the future society and the integration of Sangmyung education. In addition, he promised to become a global university, to concentrate on university management, and enhance the brand value of our university.The new president, Hong Seong-tae said, “The development of our university has been the result of the efforts and dedication of the members of Sangmyung”, and suggested, “we will continue to work together for the university to develop into a globally prestigious university.”
His four-year term as the 14th president started on September 27th, 2021. We hope that students will pay a lot of attention and support Sangmyung University's challenge to advance to become a globally prestigious university with new President Hong Seong-tae.
