서양 교육의 역사적 배경을 포괄적으로 논의하면서 고대・중세・문예부흥・종교개혁 및 근대와 현대의 교육실제와 교육사상가의 견해를 역사적 발전단계에 따라 고찰한다. 습득된 지식을 바탕으로 서양교육의 역사적 전개가 현대의 교육이론에 준 영향 및 한국 교육에 주는 의미를 탐색한다.

This course will give students general introduction to the History of Western Education and the practical implications of modern theories of education. A particular emphasis is given to identifying theoretical questions and bringing them into historical perspectives.
