In Sangmyung University College of Humanities Contents, students can learn the various academic fields of humanities and social sciences widely in-depth and acquire the methods and expertise to produce creative results that meet the needs of our society and era that change accordingly.
The Department of Historical Contents aims to cultivate human resources who have the humanities refinement to meet the needs of our era by creatively using history and culture based on history studies.
This Department also nurtures the various experts of history research and history education as well as the planning experts of historical contents and cultural heritage contents. The Department of Intellectual Property Rights analyzes the laws related to intellectual property rights such as copyright, patent rights, and trademark rights as well as business administration and technology standardization.
It is striving to activate the distribution of fair intellectual property rights and contribute to the development of advanced cultural society, by fostering convergent pragmatic and professional global human resources related to intellectual property rights protection. The Department of Library & Information Science educates information experts equipped with professional knowledge and refinement of information while nurturing practical information experts through field education and the acquisition of advanced information technology. The Department also aims to build systematic knowledge in related academics or applied academics for interdisciplinary research and application to process the information and literature in each field. Finally, the Department of Korea-Japan Cultural Contents aims for convergence studies integrating the culture, language communication, and cultural contents of Korean and Japan, provides various international exchange opportunities for students to exhibit their creativity in the culture industry, and seeks to nurture global human resources by building an educational system based on convergence knowledge.
The educational objective of the Historical Contents Department is to nurture human resources with the humanities planning ability that society needs, based on historical knowledge. To do so, students will explore history to acquire wide-ranging historical knowledge, cultivate a desirable historical awareness, and develop the ability to use that knowledge and perspectives creatively. Selected as a Project for Nurturing Creative Human Resources of Korean Historical Heritage Contents Leading K-Culture in 2014 Metropolitan University Specialization Project, the Department can receive various scholarship benefits as well as academic and employment support for the next 5 years. The Department is striving to nurture various experts in history research and education as well as experts of historical contents planning and cultural heritage contents planning to produce human resources with humanities refinement that can contribute to our society by creatively using history and culture in various ways.

The contents industry, which is considered as the core industry of the 21st century, is requiring various knowledge for contents creation and planning, production, and distribution. In this era that needs talented individuals to address all of the issues related to these processes, the Department of Intellectual Property Rights focuses on nurturing convergence experts equipped with legal competence and technological understanding to solve the issues of copyright law. Currently, the Department of Intellectual Property Rights is carrying out various activities as a department leading specialization.
Students have various employment opportunities as they are recruited by the institutions under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, copyright organization-related companies, or derived industries such as Naver or Daum. They can also work as experts in law firms or 300 online service providers in Korea.
The research fields of Library & Information Science vary and come in interdisciplinary aspects, including humanities which discovers, researches, and preserves the cultural heritage of humanity, development of a technique that organizes and manages various types of information, application of computer and communications technology for effective accumulation, search, and delivery, and social sciences characteristics that explore humans’ information activities and information distribution in society. Library & Information Science is both theoretical and practical, as it explores all fields related to the production, collection, organization, expression, accumulation, search, delivery, and use of information.
The Department of Korea-Japan Cultural Contents was established in 2015 to nurture the professionals of culture industries in Korea and Japan, aiming to provide creative convergence academics that combine comparative Korean and Japanese cultural studies, multicultural communication, and cultural content.
Conversion into the knowledge-based industry society, one of the most remarkable social changes in the 21st century, has led to the development of various cultural contents industries, and cultural contents studies have emerged as a new, central study field in different universities in Korea.
As seen from the name Department of Korea-Japan Cultural Contents, our Department aims to foster human resources who lead the Korean-wave cultural industry by gaining professional skills in advanced Japanese language, while aiming for cultural contents studies that emphasize cultural imagination and creativity. Today, the cultural contents industries in Korea and Japan need more young professionals in different fields such as new paradigm, etc. as traditional culture, pop culture, performance arts, and tourism industries become closer to each other based on various forms of cultural exchange.
To meet such trends, the Department of Korea-Japan Cultural Contents offers opportunities of cultivating practical Japanese language skills and various international exchanges while building a knowledge-based educational system out of a new paradigm that carries out convergent cultural content education, raising global cultural human resources who have enough competence in the East Asian culture market.
